One of the oldest motor clubs in the UK, The Bristol Motor Cycle & Light Car Club, is celebrating its Centenary with a festive weekend at Castle Combe Circuit, Wiltshire, on 25th/26th June 2011.
The focus of the celebration of 100 Years of Motorsport on Sunday 26th June will be a spectacular display of cars from every decade of the Club’s history. Details on the website www.bristolmc.org.uk
The oldest cars on display will be a Talbot 4AB Tourer and a Gregoire 16/24, both dating from 1911, the year the club was formed. There will also be Bentley, Bugatti and Alfa-Romeo cars from the 1920s, Lagonda, Singer, Railton and MGs from the 1930s, Jaguar, Bristol, Aston Martin and Noble super-sports cars from the post-war years, together with vintage motor-cycles, early 500cc single-seaters and later sports, GT and racing cars. There will even be a collection of historic go-karts.
The circuit and paddock will be open free of charge to spectators for the whole weekend. Visitors will be welcome to wander freely amongst the display cars, talk to their owners, and enjoy the sight and sound of these motorsport classics taking to the track for demonstration laps.
At lunchtime on Sunday 26th there will be a reception for past and present members and invited guests, where Rob Jones, General Secretary of the Motor Sports Association, the sport’s governing body, will present the MSA’s special Centenary Award to the Club.
The Bristol Motor Club has organised almost every kind of affordable motorsport since it was founded. “We are always on the lookout for events to attract newcomers into motorsport”, says Club Chairman Allen Harris. “Over the years we have offered the man in the street a chance to experience competitive motorsport, in a safe, welcoming and friendly environment, and this remains at the heart of our ambition for the future”.
Saturday 25th June will feature the Club’s annual Dick Mayo Sprint. All classes of car will take part, from standard road-going small saloons to single-seater racing cars. There will also be a class for the historic cars submitted for the centenary display.
The Bristol Motor Club’s Centenary Celebration weekend will take place at Castle Combe Circuit, Wiltshire, on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June, 9am to 5pm. ENTRY FREE BOTH DAYS – EVERYONE WELCOME. More details at http://www.bristolmc.org.uk/
