Brundle Back To Castle Combe In E-Type Anniversary Tour
The BBC’s Formula 1 commentator, Martin Brundle, is one of 50 Jaguar E-Type owners who will be visiting the Castle Combe circuit on Monday 28 February as part of a celebration of the car’s 50th anniversary.
Brundle is taking part in the E-Type Tour from Coventry to Geneva, a journey not dissimilar to that which he took with his fellow F1 presenter, Jake Humphrey, to the Belgian Grand Prix, last year.
Brundle is returning to Castle Combe some 31 years after a pair of visits in 1980, when he showed his versatility by coming second in a Formula Ford 2000 championship race and winning the BMW County championship saloon car race.
With 2011 being the 50th anniversary of the birth of one of the most iconic sports cars of all time, the tour is one of a number of celebrations being organized.
Coincidentally, E-Types have had 50 outright race wins at Castle Combe since 1962, the first by Ken Baker in a roadster at the July opening meeting of that year and the latest by Chris Scragg in 2008.
After starting from the Jaguar Heritage Centre in Coventry, the cars will head to Castle Combe, where they will complete a parade lap. After lunch, they continue their journey to Geneva, taking in other significant venues which have played an important part in the cars’ unique history.
