New Sponsors Support New Series
The Castle Combe circuit’s innovative mini-series of races have captured the imagination of both competitors and local business, with all four attracting huge interest and title sponsors.
Adding his company’s name to the Open Saloons category is Melksham’s Simon Norris, a former front running regular in the circuit’s Saloon Car championship. Last year, Norris unveiled his stunning 2 door Evo IX Bogey in the AAA Saloon Car series, which now forms part of the three new races at his home circuit.Simon said, “Norris Designs is a specialist in the development and preparation of tuned Mitsubishi Evo’s, with a world wide reputation and numerous world records we are proud of. Adding our name to Castle Combe’s new series keeps us in touch with our local fans and customer base, who are just as important as those further afield.”
Legends racer, Darren Gaulton from Bristol, is backing the Open Sports and Gt races via his company Charles Saunders Food Service. The company is one of the largest fish wholesalers in the South West. Darren said,” Castle Combe provides a great medium to expand our name awareness. Although I’ve been competing nationally, I’m hoping this link with the circuit will be an avenue to racing more locally in future.”
Already a familiar name at Castle Combe through its classic vehicle and automobilia auctions is Richard Edmonds Auctions, based in Chippenham. Richard Edmonds is sponsoring the pair of 20 minute races for cars built between 1951 and 1981 at the ‘Tour Britannia’ meeting over the weekend of June 18 and 19.
Former Castle Combe Saloon Car championship contender, Simon Lewis, returns to the circuit as backer of the new ‘Free Racing Libre’ series, which is open to any kind of single seater racing car, including suitably silenced Formula 1 cars.
Simon Lewis Transport Books, based in Coleford, Gloucestershire, has been supplying books, photos and memorabilia to motor sport enthusiasts around the world since 1985.
Said Simon, "I loved every moment of racing at Castle Combe and winning a race there in 1996 is one of my most treasured memories. I liked the variety in the Saloon Car Cup, the mix of large and small cars, different makes, different types. A prime reason for sponsoring the new Free Single Seater Series is to help encourage something similar among the single seaters.
We don't yet know what will be on the grid this summer and that’s half the fun! As an enthusiast I want to see proper, thoroughbred racing cars at Combe and I'm looking forward to some high-speed David & Goliath moments with very different cars making the running. "
The first races for the new series can be seen at the opening meeting on Easter Monday.
