BIKE NEWS FROM CASTLE COMBE CIRCUIT

RACING MEETING TICKET SPECIAL OFFER

With less than a month to go to our one and only motorcycle meeting of the year, the Fowlers ProBike National we are pleased to announce a Special Offer to all riders on our email database.

The normal cost for a ticket on the day is £12.00 plus an additional £2.50 for Paddock Admission. However, for our regular customers we are making a special ticket offer of just £10.00 per Adult ticket to include Paddock Admission – a saving of £4.50 from the on-the-day price.

All you have to do is book by not later than Friday 27th August, either book on-line and when prompted add the promotional code BIKE2010 or telephone the Circuit Office and quote the same code.  Please note a small postage and administration charge of 50p per transaction is payable in addition to the ticket price.  This offer will not be advertised or shown on our website.

The meeting itself promises a repeat of last year’s great meeting, with a packed programme of races, starting at approximately 10.30 and covering just about every class, from 125’s right through to unlimited, and just about everything in-between.  Back by popular demand this year will be the side cars with two 8 lap races for the ACU British F2 Sidecar Championship, while classic fans will enjoy the classic series under the new title of the British Historic Grand Prix Championship (formerly the Lansdowne Classic Series).

We are hopeful that we will be running our first ever electric powered race with invitations sent to all those riders who competed in the Electric Bike Race at this year’s TT.  But whilst we expect the grids to be small this race will break new ground in Castle Combe’s long history.

Feature race of the day, will however, be the ‘King of Castle Combe Trophy Race’ which will feature some of the fastest riders from throughout the afternoon competing for this prestigious award.

Qualifying will get underway at 08.45, with racing from 10.30, admission on the day is Adult £12.00 with OAP’s enjoying a 50% discount and Paddock Transfer at £2.50.

INSTRUCTORS AWARDS

The dedication, skill and enthusiasm of our motorcycle instructors are one of the reasons that our Track Days prove so popular.  It is great to report that one of our leading instructors, Nick Leatherland recently passed his ROSPA Motorcycle Training Course.  Nick is one of the select band of instructors under the guidance of Rob Jones and Ian Terry on our Performance Riding Days.  These days are tailored for riders of all abilities, from the newcomer through to the born-again rider and experienced rider alike.  Covering a whole variety of road riding skills plus classroom sessions on clothing, basic motorcycle maintenance and many safety tips, the days offer a great way to polish up on your road riding skills.  With just one remaining on September 15th and priced at £99.00 it’s a lot of fun and one day may save your life.

Our Motorcycle Track Days have just 4 dates remaining in 2010.  The 18th August, 1st September (where we will probably see several riders competing in the race meeting gaining a little track experience) plus 22nd September with the Motorcycle Track Day season finishing on 6th October.  Availability across these days is generally quite good, although we expect 1st September to fill quickly, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

60 YEARS OF MOTORCYCLE RACING IN 2011

Having just celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the Circuit since we started car racing back in 1950, we now look forward to repeating the same in 2011 for bikes.  Our very first race meeting in July 1950 featured one motorcycle race, in fact it was the first race ever held at the circuit, but the first dedicated bike meeting was in 1951, so we thought it appropriate that next year we concentrate on the two wheel history of the Circuit.

Local motorcycle enthusiast Mike Newbury, has been searching all the various archives and has been unearthing all sorts of detail and photographs which we hope to collate into a small booklet.  Also, celebrating a major anniversary in 2011 will be Avon Tyres who celebrate 100 years of producing motorcycle tyres at their Melksham factory.  Avon tyres are used almost exclusively by our instructors on our Bike Track Days and Avon’s UK Sales Manager, Gary Bretherton is usually here on our track days and is always happy to advise and assist any customer with questions on tyre choice.
