Circuit Competitors Raise £2K for Safety Fund

Competitors in the Castle Combe Racing Club’s championships at the eponymous circuit have donated over £2,000 to a charity aimed at improving safety at motor sport events.

The donations came about as the result of a unique scheme, devised at the beginning of 2006, where the club rebates part of a competitor’s race entry fee where grids exceed 19 starters.

Drivers in the circuit’s three home championships for National Mobile Windscreens Saloons, Melton Concrete Products FF1600 and the savesometax.co.uk Special GT’s, were offered the option to donate their refunds to the Motorsport Safety Fund.  Each competitor had until 31st December 2006 to indicate their preference.

A number of drivers chose to donate a total of £2,070 to the Motorsport Safety Fund, which has been helping to improve safety in the sport since 1974.

Steve Burns, Competitions Director for the club said, “I was delighted the club and it’s drivers were able to raise such a worthwhile amount for a cause which is extremely important for anyone competing in motor sport in the UK. With our ever increasing grid numbers I hope we can raise even more in 2007.”
