Strawford Receives Club Award

Howard Strawford, President of the Castle Combe Racing Club, was presented with a trophy and cheque for £250 at the Autosport International Racing Car show last week after the club won third place in the Motor Sports Association’s JLT Sport/MSA Club of the Year awards.

The presentation was made by Allan Dean-Lewis, Head of External Affairs at the Motor Sports Association on the club’s stand at the NEC last week.

In only its third year the club has been responsible for the recruitment of more than 100 new marshals and the training of more than 600. It has a policy of reinvesting surplus funds back to the sport with £20,000 recently being donated to marshals' welfare and approximately £100,000 of entry fees refunded back to competitors.  Its 400+ members benefit from a range of discounts, including cheaper breakfasts on race days and reduced test fees.

The club also works closely with Wiltshire College which teaches its second year motorsport engineering students at purpose-built premises at the circuit.

The club’s first meeting of the 2009 season at Castle Combe is on Easter Monday, April 13.
